Ernie and Inge Williams have been volunteering at The Gathering Place at Community Church of Greenwood for many years. Those who arrive at 5:30am will recognize Ernie as our friendly greeter who unlocks the doors Monday through Friday. He and Inge also help with getting The GP prepared for a busy day by turning on the lights, getting the first aid ice cooler ready, and many other opening details. We asked them to tell us more about their extraordinary service at The GP.
What brought you to The Gathering Place?
We were looking for a place to exercise, and friends told us about The Gathering Place.
Why did you decide to start volunteering?
We were exercising and the then director, Dean, asked if I would like to help bring out the equipment. I said that I would like to do that.
What’s your favorite part about volunteering?
The staff and the people who come regularly. We've made a lot of good and special friends.
Anything else you’d like to say about your time volunteering at The GP?
It makes our day to be there and help and meet good people.
What would you say to someone else who’s thinking about volunteering here?
Whenever we meet with our friends, or the opportunity presents, we always talk about The Gathering Place. It is special!
Thank you Ernie and Inge. It also makes our day to see you each morning!
