Race for an Orphan 5k

          and family fun fest!

This year The GP is going to hold its annual 5k to support The Boaz Project. We will have both a 5k and a mini-mile for families at The GP.

Also, this year for those not into running, but want to support a great cause we will be hosting a Family Fun Fest.  Bring the whole family to enjoy bounce houses, fun based stations to learn about orphans, face-painting, food, and more!

The race will be held on Saturday, May 4th and registration will open in January. All of the money raised will go directly to supporting orphan homes in India, Kenya, and Russia that have been built by The Boaz Project. We have set a personal goal of 1000 runners to support orphans!

"Journey Bags"

The average foster child shows up at a foster home with little to nothing to his name. To support these children and the families that take them in, we are working with Hands of Hope to build Journey Bags. Foster parents provide these bags to children to give them a sense of ownership and help them settle into their new homes. Please join us in collecting the items needed for these bags or assembling a whole bag yourself!!

We will be collecting items through Mid-February for these bags.  You can drop off items at The GP.  We will also take donations to buy the items needed for the bags.

At Community Church of Greenwood we believe in a God who desires justice and restoration for the marginalized (James 1:27). God also desires renewal in the lives of His people and that the actions of our faith would produce works that would bring Him glory and us blessing! We want to be a light that reaches into the dark places in our community and helps be a "Restorer of Broken Walls".

Isaiah 58

6 “Is not this the kind of fasting I have chosen:

to loose the chains of injustice

    and untie the cords of the yoke,

to set the oppressed free

    and break every yoke?

7 Is it not to share your food with the hungry

    and to provide the poor wanderer with shelter—

when you see the naked, to clothe them,

    and not to turn away from your own flesh and blood?

8 Then your light will break forth like the dawn,

    and your healing will quickly appear;

then your righteousness will go before you,

    and the glory of the Lord will be your rear guard.

9 Then you will call, and the Lord will answer;

    you will cry for help, and he will say: Here am I.

“If you do away with the yoke of oppression,

    with the pointing finger and malicious talk,

10 and if you spend yourselves in behalf of the hungry

    and satisfy the needs of the oppressed,

then your light will rise in the darkness,

    and your night will become like the noonday."
